Choosing The Right Dog For Your Family

When deciding to get a dog, there are many things to consider. At Puppy Avenue we want to make sure you go home with the dog of your dreams, in order to do that consider the following things when looking at the puppies that we have available.

1. Care Needs

Each breed requires a different amount of time and attention for its care. So when considering a breed it’s important to look into those things prior to taking them home. For instance, some dogs need to go on a walk at least twice a day, or some need their fur to be attended to throughout the week.

2. Size

Size is important for many reasons. If you live in a small apartment it is better to not get a large dog since it’s hard on you and also not fair to the dog. Other variables to consider are if you have a yard, the size of your family, exercise needs, etc.

3. Lifespan

If you’re looking for a dog that can grow up with you and your kids, then it’s important to research the lifespan of each breed since they fluctuate. Some breeds will only live seven years while others have been known to live over 18.

4. Temperament

If you have kids or plan on starting a family soon, make sure to look at the temperament of different breeds. This is also important if you already own other pets like different dogs or cats. Another factor is identifying what you want this dog to be in your family. Ask yourself do you want a protective guard dog, or do you want a friendly family dog?
